Introducing Filmmaker Lynne Hull!

Lynne Hull

Lynne Hull will be joining us with her film Spanish Moss. Here are some questions to let you get to know more about her!

What is your connection to the South?

A deep one. The waters of the Mississippi flow through my veins.

Where did you get your inspiration for this work?

After preliminary attempts to incorporate strands of Spanish moss into a journal-scarf I was knitting proved frustrating, it occurred to me that the ideas I was trying to express would be better suited for another medium. Serendipitously, the film Spanish Moss was born.

How did you start making films?

I believe my works have moved beyond the tethers of what is so facetiously coined “film” now days, and as such the labeling of my process as “making films” is fundamentally incorrect. I would consider my works more as surrealist melancholic journeys into self-realization.

Did anything interesting or funny happen on set during the shooting?

A single butterfly alighted on a leaf. I laughed at the cold irony.

What do you look forward to the most during Indie Grits?

The transcultural demi-organic grits buffet. I admire what Indie Grits is doing to bring awareness to the many overlooked grits varieties of the south, and how it works to educate the public on the inherent differences between this staple of southern cuisine and its degenerate cousins, porridge and oatmeal. Change has to start with us.

Why should someone see your film?

To achieve enlightenment.
