A creative leader of the 2018 Indie Grits Labs Fellowship, Roni Nicole Henderson, is being featured in the Pearlstein Gallery as part of the 6th Annual Blackstar Film Festival in Philadelphia, PA! Lossless is “an exploration of Black and Brown bodies as a site of compression, considering the ways that labor, illusion, loss, lineage, and personhood are imagined and re-constructed” — featuring artists who have “dismantled and reassembled conventions of cinema and video art to create new experiences with the moving image.”
Roni Nicole, alongside Michaela Pilar Brown, is heading up the artist fellowship for the 2018 project, Two Cities, developing art and social works with the rest of the team. You can learn more about that here. As well, another artist in Lossless, ja’tovia gary, is no stranger to our family, as she was featured as part of the Nickelodeon Theatre’s Daughters Festival in the fall of 2016, which celebrated emerging female filmmakers of color. We’re so glad to see such wonderful artists making an impact all over the country!
